Dear Mark,
I did a study on the wisdom of God last summer and it is in to many verses to post here that we fear Him first to gain wisdom. After this study I believe He is desiring us to become teachable and humble. That would be my definition of this type of fear. I will post some of them ; Psalm 111:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow His precepts have good understanding. To Him belongs eternal praise.
Psalm 128:1 Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in His ways. (a promise) 2 You will eat the fruit of your labor blessings and prosperity will be yours.
Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
This is my absolute favorite description of Yeshua from the OT, Isaiah 11: 2-3 The Spirit of the Lord will rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power the Spirit of knowledge and of the FEAR of the Lord, and He will DELIGHT in the fear of the Lord.
Can you image the Son of God delighting in the fear of the Lord. Personally I think fear is a hard word to define and we each have to find how it applies to God on our own. May the Lord bless you and keep you, Nancy
