The Sub-1000 PCs are selling, but the market that can support the volumes necessary to make the low margins meaningfully profitable are in Asia, not here. By it's acquisition of DEC, CPQ is positioning itself to get into the high end market.

The people on this thread are completely unbelievably absolutely
rediculous.

1. Compaq is going to be a penny stock
2. 30 by the end of 1998! Did I hear that correct?
3. Dell #1 Compaq sucks
4. A compaq/digital/tandem co is not a powerhouse whutttt?????
5. Will be like Silicon swallowing cray?
6 Will buy at 15? Good luck
7. When can any of you see value and look past the analysts

In 3 months not 6 or 8 or 12 months all the pessimist on this board
will be broke because there to busy worrying rather than investing. I bought 6000 of this "piece of crap 2nd to Dell company" and I sleep with cheer in my stomach knowing that this investment will be my ticket.

Why does everyone think that marriage of Digital/Compaq is so terrible. Does anyone know how deeply routed Digital is in corporate america. Even dell wishes they had a relationship with business customers like Digital. Dell this dell that. Dell is just a big a conveyer belt company. Dell is hot Compaqs not By the year 1999 comes around and the 2000 thing/problem has a program fix for corporate america, do you think that there are going to be millions of programmers installing this gadget program thats going to fix the problem. Of course not!!!!!!! Business will by all new stuff. Why fix the problem (spend time/effort$$$$$. get next generation products that have left the 2000 problem in the dust. You want to see computers selling fast, wait till first quarter 99!!!!!!!

Computers are going away. Compaq is losing ground fast. I heard most of the largest insurance companies have been trashing all plans for computer purchasing. Return of type writer ribbons and corrective tape.

Take the blinders and look past tommarrow. you may find you might make some money /learn something about the crazy computer business and even learn to be an investor.

<but I was talking about the U.S markets and sub-1000 PCs that may not
be sold here in the U.S markets even with the price-cuts.>

Why not consider Radio Shack (7000 stores) as an outlet if an abundance of <1k PCs remain? Wouldn't this be an opportunity for exposure to new line via upgrade selling?
