The only experience I've had working inside a company that trades publicly showed me that most employees had no idea what was going on regarding how the company stock might trade. The exception was the sales force. They knew when big orders had been racked up and an earnings surprise was in the works.

I am surprised too by how little people on SI threads often know about the goings on at companies they follow. An employee of a disk drive company recently told me how they have just hired someone from IBM who has them on track to produce the latest GMR heads. The mood at the company is excitement, holding on for the next few months until they start producing. Yet no one on the SI thread has a clue this is going on.
