Oh of course not. Microsoft's primary strategy at this time is to make Java as just a language via which Windows based applications can be developed very easily. It is basically underminding the concepts behind the invention of Java. The concept of using Java is not to develop Windows specific (or for that matter any OS specific) based application. If the purpose is to develop Windows specific applications one may as well use C++ and MFC and/or other stuff MS offers. What Microsoft is doing (which in my opinion is a very dirty strategy) is manipulating Java as means via which Windows based applications can now easily be developed (and that is not the purpose of doing Java development in the first place)! Basically Microsoft is offering a new technology that in most parts has absolutely nothing to do with Java! They are using the name Java to give it some validity! Java to Microsoft is sort of what god is to fanatic terrorists where they (the terrorists) do all their dirty deeds in the name of god!

How successful Microsoft is going to be in my opinion should not even be a concern because this strategy will eventually back fire. Although I have to say from what I hear even Oracle (Microsoft's prime enemy!) may end up using MS's version of Java for some of its thin client applications targeted for Windows CE. And regretfully a manifestation of this would be to stamp an approval on MS's dirty strategy by its biggest competitor (namely Oracle). But what else Oracles of the world can do? They are trying to make a buck in the growing market where Microsoft has a dominant position (namely personal OS - in this particular instance Windows CE). In order to obtain the most optimum performance they have no choice but to use what ever Microsoft is forcing them to use (in this case namely its version of Java to have the most optimum and performance for Windows based software)!

This is where I have to admit that eventhough I am a share holder of Microsoft I am ashamed for investing in a company that is trying to destory the genuine intentions and hard work of thousands of brilliant engineers who invented and developed the Java technology at Sun. It is a dirty unprofessional business strategy which eventhough will not succeed, will have a negative impact on the moral and will bring frustration and anger to a lot of people (not only at Sun) but in the industry as a whole in the short term. It is truly sad, and I do sincerely hope Sun's lawyers are smart enough to fight this to the end and to win at all costs (even if they have to play dirty)!
