Informix Restructures Product Strategy Newsbytes - March 13, 1998 14:09 %GENERAL %HKG IFMX V%NEWSBYTES P%NBYT ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MANILA, PHILIPPINES, 1998 MAR 13 (NB) -- By Jennifer B. Malapitan, Metropolitan Computer Times. After a long process of reinstatement in the Nasdaq, Informix Corp. [NASDAQ:IFMX] recently announced 1997 fourth quarter revenue of US$181.2 million, with an operating profit of $17.8 million. The vendor likewise announced that total revenue for fiscal year 1997, ending December 31, was $662.3 million, with an operating loss of $357.3 million, including a $108.2 million restructuring charge. With these developments, the vendor says it is restructuring its product strategy to communicate more clearly its technology directions to current and potential users, according to Maxie Ventura, marketing manager of Informix Philippines Inc. "Under the leadership of our chief executive officer (CEO), Bob Finocchio, we are repackaging our entire product positioning," Ventura said. Informix's core database product previously known as Informix Online Dynamic Server will now be marketed using the name Informix Dynamic Server (IDS). On top of the IDS, which is based on the Dynamic Scalable Architecture (DSA) platform, are four configuration options that will be made available to users depending on their enterprise requirements. The four options include: Metacube ROLAP (relational online analytical processing) for those who need to develop Web-ready applications; a Universal Data Option for those with data warehousing requirements; Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) options; and the Distributed Enterprise option. With the new product positioning, Informix is treading a clearer marketing perspective which is expected to boost sales. "With this product re-packaging, our clients have clear options to match their business directions," Ventura, who is also acting as officer-in-charge of Informix Philippines pending appointment of a new country manager, added. She also stressed that they will maintain their software offerings as they previously did. "No re-encoding, no changes in applications," the executive assured. In spite of the currency crisis, Ventura said the company will continue to experience a growing demand for its products, particularly from the triumvirate sector of manufacturing, telecommunications, and banking. "We have made significant revenues last year, and I believe that the economic slump did not have a big impact on our local operations primarily because we peg quotations in US dollar," she said. Ventura promised that a new country manager for Informix will have been named by the first week of April. Reported by Newsbytes News Network: newsbytes.com .
