Thanks for clarifying my misconception. I remember that I read an article from Barron's "striking price" (sic)a few years ago. A poor guy sold a truck load of covered calls on a drug stock. He thought it expired worthless. After market it announced something big. Next Monday he found out all his 10-points higher stocks had been called away. Of course he filed a complain. I don't know the final result.

Options expiration is the third Saturday of the month, but the last trading day is the Friday. However, remember that the options market closes two minutes after the equity market.
