Jason, I'll preface by saying I am an investor in Compac and I do not share your views of the company's future or Eckhard's vision.

In the short term, there are a number of reasons the stock may not advance (dec deal, competition between chip manufacturers, etc.) However, I would not read the higher number of Compac units on the shelf as a negative but as a positive. I live in the Dallas area and have been doing some unscientific research of local dealers. Here is what I have learned.

1.Radio Shack will carry 3 Compac machines at every store. That alone is a huge swing from the previous IBM contract. One of the store managers told me the ability to sell compac has completely turned their computer sales around. Where before they only sold to holiday shoppers or the uninformed, now they compete with conventional computer stores.

2. I also talked to sales people at Best Buy, Computer city and Comp USA. All but Comp USA said the Compac machines were their best overall sellers right now. I should point out Comp USA had a HP rep in the store at the time I was talking to him so I questioned his comments on HP beating out Compac.

Compac may not run up for the next few weeks but I do believe they are a great investment for the next year. All IMHO.
