Truff, I think you sound a lot like fRock with your stock manipulation
FUD. I don't think you have a lick of data to justify the notion that
"KE and the boys" manipulated the stock price for their own gain at
shareholder's expense. I have to say the ends do NOT justify the means. The lawsuits, in my opinion, are unwarranted.

I don't recall you addressing the issue of short selling after the close and before the CC. I don't give a rat's ass if you don't think my opinion warrants a response, but you're not being realistic if you ignore that action.

Now you know these boys are running out of space/options, they don't have the freedom to maneuver that they just to have to take your money and run....

BTW, in one of my visits to Iomega's corporate grounds, the receptionist at the main lobby told me the following: "Warning! Sir, please keep your wallet in your front pocket"

As I repeatedly warned, growth is slowing dramatically.

Iomega's growth rate has been on a geometric decline for 2 years. What makes people here think that this will stop? I predicted that Iomega may report a loss this year. And again, I had no idea that it would be reported so soon. Earnings growth slowed from 80% to 40% to now 0%.

This is obviously going to be a very rough year for IOM shareholders. Zip sales , IOM's bread and butter, are slowing. OEM sales are killing the bottom line. There is no evidence that higher OEM sales leads to more disc sales. In fact, the opposite is true. Jaz1 is being hurt badly by SparQ, along with people holding out for either Ghostware Jaz2, or Castlewood's Vaporware Orb.

SparQ might indeed be crap. But this doesn't help Iomega. Each SparQ sold can be viewed as a Zip+ or Jaz that doesn't. Even if returned, it's not automatic that a former SparQ owner will instantly buy from Iomega. They may go to CD-R, MO, another fixed hard drive (they're SO CHEAP!) or discover they really need nothing at all-- they just originally bought it on a whim.

Vapor! will not be rolled out until the later half of this year. It will not contribute positively for a long time after its release, if ever. According to the last CC, it takes a year for OEM's to create devices that incorporate it. By that time, Flash prices will have declined even more-- this ignoring the fact that a revolution in technology could be announced at any time that would REALLY lower the price of PC cards.

Iomega can continue to be the leader in this removable drive niche. But that doesn't mean that they will make any money. I'm warning now that 2nd Q will be murder.

>>To all of you lawyer bashing and lawsuit hating people: Guess what? The lawsuits forced this preannouncement. If they hadn't been filed, KE and the boys would have let all of you get juiced up over this quarter, buy the hell out of the stock, then get your fannies kicked AGAIN. There are too many outstanding plaintiff securities firms involved here. These folks know a good case when they see it.<<

Trufflette -

I disagree. There is a big difference between missing estimates by one or two cents and reporting a loss instead of positive earnings of 9 cents.

I believe that this pre-announcement was made because they could see they were off by a wide margin. It's entirely possible that they didn't know they would miss the last quarter until all the numbers were in.

The numbers of securities firms involved in the suit means only that lawyers know how to read balance sheets, and they could see that Iomega was sitting on a pile of cash.

In any case, we now have a pre-announcement, and it's obviously not good. Again, I didn't check in until late this morning, so I feel like it's too late to sell and I may as well wait to see if the earnings situation turns around in the next two quarters.

One thing's for sure. Unless the loss comes in on the lower end of the estimates AND the second quarter is positive, IOM is sunk. OK, so I'm not really ahead of the perception curve, here. But I have been saying since the last report that they need to have two great reports in a row before the stock price will recover.

BTW, I believe Jaz2 revenues will not impact earnings at all this quarter. Since Iomega counts revenues only for goods in the channel beyond thirty days worth, and since Jaz2 didn't start shipping in volume in February, it will make NO difference in Q1.

I disagree that the lawsuits forced the pre-announcemnt. The thrashing the the stock took the previous qtr. forced this announcement. This is an acknowledgement by KE that like it or not they will have to keep WS better informed than they have in the past.

Interesting that the amount of the shortfall is approximately the value of one quarter's worth of the new advertising budget. Although I suspect that this qtr. will probably consume more than 25 percent.

Only two days ago I posted that the stock will never see 7, oh well. I still believe that this is a $15 stock, it ain't over yet.
