I am having problems with my discount broker in Canada who in their infinite wisdom have decided that when the original GIC spun off into CTV SEM and NLV I was awarded a pretty signifigant dividend. I can't believe I'm the only person subject to canadian tax laws that owned GIC when it did it's dance last year. I could live with some arcane interpertaion that saw a capital gain being realized as i had made money a that point but not a dividend.Particulary a dividend that is just about the full amount of my holdings. Anyhow any assistance would be welcome.

I would also be interested in hearing how the reverse spit and spin-off impact American taxes.

Thks,
Gord
