Laser Vision subpoenaed, is cooperating

ST. LOUIS, March 16 (Reuters) - Laser Vision Centers Inc said Monday it has been subpoenaed by the U.S. Department of Justice and is cooperating fully.

The company said it understood the subpoena was part of an industry-wide investigation into the so-called ''international card,'' which was software that enabled excimer lasers to be used to perform laser eye surgeries for higher myopia cases than what was initially approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

It said the FDA ultimately did approve the use of an excimer laser for higher myopia cases in January this year.

The subpoena calls for Laser Vision to produce several specified categories of documents, but the company did not provide further details.

Laser Vision, the world's largest provider of excimer laser access, closed down 5/8 at 8-5/8.

Pappy
You Lie!
Are you trying to tell me that VISX is down today?
That can't be. Remember now. Mr Cheese has RESEARCHED this issue.
Pappy, if that were true, if that were true, if that were true -
why I might try to short it for 5 quick points. But we know that
can't be true.
The only thing that might bring this stock down is maybe some legal issue that would come up out of the blue.
OH MY GOD! Pappy.
Guess what just came over the press wire .......... !

Does John M. Nehra have anything to do with BEAM? Is Iridex (IRIX) considered a competitor? John M. Nehra, chairman of Iridex purchased 10,000 shares of IREX in the open market on 2/4/98 @ $7.76? Please educate me. Who all the players in these markets?
