Philips Trimedia going into lots of DTVs...............

techweb.cmp.com

<<Philips, a significant manufacturer of set-top boxes for the European
market, said it will ship 1 million set-top boxes and digital TVs with an
integrated decoder during 1998, but none of these will incorporate the
Trimedia. Adri Baan, president and chief executive officer of Philips
Business Electronics, said the Trimedia chip would be used in Philips's
future digital-TV products for Europe.

To support the high-definition capability of ATSC without a coprocessor,
TV makers will need to step up to the next-generation Trimedia-2 device.
The current TM-1000 decodes MPEG-2 main-profile, main-level data
streams, but requires a coprocessor to decode MPEG-2 main-profile,
high-level streams.

Philips now plans to announce its Trimedia-2 VLIW (very-long-instruction
word) architecture and to begin sampling the device in September, then to
move to volume production in 1999.>>

What Happens When Consumers 'Go Digital'?

Speakers, Companies With a Point of View - or an Enabling Technology or Product -
Now Being Sought for David Coursey's Digital Living Room Conference

SAN MATEO, Calif., March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Speakers who can inform and intrigue one of the industry's
most influential audiences are now being sought for David Coursey's Digital Living Room, a new executive
conference from Upside. Digital Living Room (DLR) is scheduled June 21 to 24 at the Ritz- Carlton Hotel Laguna
Niguel in Dana Point, California. Companies with leading edge technologies and products that expect to thrive
when the consumer experience goes digital are also invited to demonstrate products during the conference.

Co-presented by Upside magazine, Broadcasting & Cable magazine, Digital Television Magazine, and TWICE,
the conference will take a look into the future of technology, information and entertainment as they emerge more
completely in consumers' lives. Digital Living Room will include onstage presentations, debates and interviews as
well as selected product and technology demonstrations.

Submitting a Product or Speaker Proposal

The deadline for speaker proposals is March 20. Industry leaders (CEOs and senior-level executives) who have a
clear point of view are invited to provide a one-page abstract on the proposed topic, along with a biography of
the proposed speaker. ''I'm looking for speakers who will tell the audience something new - or help them shape a
clearer vision of a trend or technology they need to understand,'' explained conference executive producer David
Coursey.

''I want to hear from you if you have answers to questions such as: How will consumers respond as entertainment,
information, and related technology evolves? If we build it, will they really come? How does anyone make money
from the shift from analog to digital technology anyway? I also want to hear from you if you have a product or
technology that you believe will be essential in the all-digital world consumers will encounter soon.

''Some futurists predict that the living room of the future will be filled with devices that were the stuff of science
fiction only a few years ago. Others think that we'll see an evolution, where existing devices get smarter and add
functions. We want to showcase some brand-new technologies as well as those that add new twists to familiar
standards. Alpha, beta, still-in- development, or just beginning to ship products are welcome if they have the
potential to shape the consumer's digital future.''

Additional details about the conference and the selection process are available on the Digital Living Room web
site at digitallivingroom.com. Speaker proposals should be send to Rachel Latta at Upside Media,
Inc., via e-mail at rlatta@upside.com or via fax to (650) 372-1468.

The conference will also feature a product demonstration area featuring selected products that demonstrate an
innovative solution or vision for the future of the digital home. Each product will be personally selected by David
Coursey. Some products may appear on stage during an 8-10 minute presentation followed by questions from the
audience, while others will be selected for presentation in the demonstration areas only.

Applications for products to be shown at the conference can be submitted online at
digitallivingroom.com. For additional information about the product selection
process, please contact Tiffany Freeman via e-mail at tfreeman@upside.com.

Registering to attend Digital Living Room

Attendance is limited to senior executives of technology, entertainment or media companies interested in digital
technologies and their impact on consumer markets. Board members of these companies, venture capitalists and
members of the financial community are also welcome.

NCI Demonstrates Next Generation Set-Top Box Powered By
Intel's Pentium Processor

Pentium Design Delivers Speed and Performance on NCI's TV Navigator Platform

LAS VEGAS, April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- At the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show today,
Network Computer, Inc. (NCI) demonstrated the first set-top box powered by an Intel Pentium microprocessor.
Running NCI's TV Navigator, the Pentium processor-based system exhibited one of the fastest environments for
delivering Internet-enabled services and applications to consumer's television sets. Today's announcement also
adds a powerful, proven and robust platform to the many chip architectures that NCI already supports.

With today's Pentium demonstration, consumers can expect faster performance from set-top boxes for Enhanced
TV(TM) applications that integrate the television and Internet experience. Powered by a 166 MHZ Pentium
processor, the set-top box demonstrated a variety of Enhanced TV applications on NCI's TV Navigator platform
including electronic picture mail, electronic programming guides, news tickers, interactive chat and Web browsing.
In the future, the Pentium processor-based system can also enable a host of next generation applications such as
video on demand through MPEG, video conferencing, telephony and virtual modeling through VRML.

Today's announcement also adds another prominent chip platform that NCI supports. NCI's software technology
is architecture agnostic and runs on a wide range of microprocessors including Intel's 486, Pentium, PowerPC,
MIPS, Sparc and ARM.

''We're excited to be the first Internet software company to support a Pentium based set-top box,'' said David
Roux, CEO of NCI. ''Together NCI and Intel are pushing the envelope for speed and performance on set-top
computers. Ultimately consumers will benefit with the fastest systems that meet their demands for running the
growing amount of content and services from the Internet.''

''Today's demonstration is a major milestone for the set-top computer market,'' said Ganesh Moorthy, General
Manager of Intel's Appliance and Computing Division. ''Over the next decade set-top computers have the
potential to become a common device in every home. Working with NCI we have demonstrated that these
devices can always deliver an environment that's both easy to use and provides a fast and robust system for
computing in the living room.''

NCI is an affiliate of Oracle Corp. [Nasdaq:ORCL - news] and Netscape and is the leading provider of open
software for easy to use Internet enhanced products. Founded in 1996, NCI brings its technology to homes,
schools and businesses through its strategic worldwide alliances. NCI is based in Redwood Shores California, and
