The CEO of Micron said companies with 6 inch dram lines
will have to fold.
Does TXN have any 6 inch wafer dram lines ???

I may be wrong, but I remember reading somewhere that the TI-Acer venture was only 20% of their DRAM production. A good sign to see them reducing their exposure there, but I believe they still have a significant part of their production.

Pat,

Since the sale was announced just a week ago, I
think DRAM revenue will be still in this 1Q98
earning report. I also recently talked to some
of my friends now working at TI; from what they
had told me I just don't feel confident that
this quarter TXN will meet the concensus est.
of $.45/shrs. The Mar98 stock options purchase
at TI is offered at around $49/shr, but 4 out
of 5 of them told me they will not participate
the program this time. Because they can use the
money to invest other stocks such as CPQ (not
now, they are waiting until it reaches under
$20/shr), or INTC which are more safe and
potential of bigger returns.

I will be long on TXN some other times, but not
this time. The warnings of lower earning coming out
lately in technology sector just look scary to me.

Best of luck to you and everyone on the thread,
Van

Pat:

<<Since TXN just sold off Acer, they're now out of DRAMs so I don't see this affecting them at all.>>

Acer was only one of several DRAM JVs for TXN. They're still a big player. I'll post the relative size numbers later.
