PX,

<<Controlling lights is useful. Controlling appliances is marginally useful. Thermostats? How often do you change your thermostate .. home theater? No. Television? No. Sprinklers?? No. Security system? Maybe. My point is that these guys are ahead of their time. The mass market isnt ready for this kind of thing. IMHO.>>
Mass market-no. There is a very definite niche market for this sort of product right now.
I live in an exclusive retirement/vacation community. With the advent of e-mail, videoconferencing, lap top computing, etc., we are seeing more and more young professionals buying estate 2nd homes. They are using these homes as non-seasonal get-aways. Shorter but more frequent visits.
Lights, thermostats, sprinklers, security systems, refrigerators are all things that need attention when coming and going. In our South Florida climate, the ability to check all of these functions from a remote location would provide great peace of mind.
For the young professional, you can't discount the "cool" factor too. <g>

If it really works reliably, I would buy the thing now.

I am not much of a "wordsmith". I hope you get my drift here.
