I really think they should come out with a press release today saying how good the quarter is.

Gary,

Don't we all! But it is silence time (as Kristina at ASND stated last Friday). Presumably, therefore, a press release cannot issue, just as Ashby cannot speak to the powers-that-be at Goldman Sachs or Morgan Stanley. Not even a hint. Now, do you believe that?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I sincerely doubt the total holdings of EVERYONE on this thread would add up to one of those big blocks we saw today.

I wouldn't underestimate the power of this thread. When it was announced that TI was buying Amati Communications and that they would close the deal before the end of December if over 80% of the shares had been tendered, SI followers who wanted a 1998 tax event decided not to tender and when the deadline came and went, TI received only 78% of the outstanding shares -- and that included options. Those who didn't tender were put into a "second stage closing" which was completed the end of February.

I honestly don't think this could have happened without the Internet. And I certainly wouldn't underestimate the holdings of some who post.

Just my take.

Pat

I am a little curious about how many shares are represented here. Is there any way we could figure it out? Secret ballot, something?

I think we might be surprised that between the lurkers and the posters there is something on the order of 10 to 15 million shares here. I have nothing to support that, but with options which I don't play, I would not be surprised at all.

Any suggestions on how one might gather this data. Statistical sampling might be the only way. Does SI have any stats on the number of posters on this thread?

Serious, as a numbers guy, I know numbers get attention, Dennis

Don't be so sure about that.
