"CSCO=BigNets,COMS=appliances,INTC=small nets. CS,BAY,ASND fade into same fate as Prime Computer, Data General, Sperry, Wang, ROLM, NCR, Olivetti, NBI, Novell. Netscape becomes the next big yahoo, lycos, excite. LU,Nortel,Siemens,NEC,Ericsson,Alcatel miss the new IP data wave just like they missed routing, voicemail, frame relay, video conferencing, and that small thing called the internet..."

Hmmm... Interesting!!

It remains to be seen how this latest bit of news from BAY will affect Cisco's share price. I personally don't see why Bay's problems should be viewed as being at all relevant to Cisco's situation, but then you never know how the market will react. What do yall think??

Interesting post. I am new to SI and technically challenged (to put it mildly), so sorry if this is an obvious question:

Regarding Lucent and Nortel. I thought Lucent, Ciena, Nortel are working on optical networking components such WDM, optical cross connects, add-drop multiplexers etc. These are also necessary to increase bandwidth for the coming data wave. If so, would not these companies be just as relevant to the coming data wave as Cisco? FWIW, my view is that Cisco will try to get to some of these technologies through partnerships or acquisitions. I would appreciate your thoughts on this.

BTW, I concur with your views on wireless.
