This will probably be the last CB which will have sold off a part of
their gold reserves, before the start of the ECB in April...

In the very short time, this news will be negative, but on a longer term basis, this news should be seen as positive.

Now let's hope that the support level of 278.5 $ can hold...

Regards,

GF.

Maybe we're near the end of surprises, as least pre-ECU? EOM

This was posted on Kitco this morning:

"The Belgian central bank on Wednesday confirmed that 299 tonnes of gold from its reserves were bought by five other banks. 'The banks were the buyers,' a central bank spokesman told Reuters, clarifying uncertainty over whether the central banks involved had been buyers or intermediaries in the gold sales."

So, it appears that total Central Bank reserves were unchanged by this sale. With gold hanging tough this morning, it would appear that this announcement may not be as bearish as anticipated (imho).
