If CPQ has said they will approximately break even this quarter.....then they have expected to "write down" a certain amount of inventory? So, whatever they sell between now and the end of the quarter will be better than "writing off" the full price?

Hugh...sell every PC stock...the growth rates and PE on these stocks are higher than what will happen...better late to the party than never at all

also, can anyone remind me of a trade-in program for PC hardware...its the first in my recollection

These deep price cuts will not necessarily guarantee greater market share for cpq. It's like the neanderthal gas station attendants with four gas stations on a corner. No sooner does one go up the ladder to lower his price per gallon than the other three are getting their ladders from the back to do the same. Net result? Same market share for all four but lower revenues and profits.
