Exchange is only a secondary source of income for OnSale (at least
for now). They are still in the ramp-up mode for this service,
which still has ways to go to catch up with EBay. Their main
source is regular auctions, bringing in much more money. These are
limited to Computer, Sports and Electronics products (mostly
closeouts, but recently I noticed a lot of brand new items at good
initial prices) now, but OnSale is planning to expand into other
areas, according to their CEO (tickets, gifts, etc.) Note, that
despite the increased competition, they are still the leader in these
types of sales (judging by their volume (yes, number of bids), 7
days auctions, technical advantages (BidWatch)).

<it amuses me that ONSALE brags about number of bids. It is like a soldier brags about the number of shots he fired in a battle.>

I disagree. ONSL SHOULD brag about the increasing number of bids, because this is a very relevant statistic. As ONSL increases its capacity to handle more orders, it should be able to keep the ratio of winning bids to all bids the same. Therefore, more bids means more winning bids means more revenue.

There have already been over 1 million bids in the first quarter (with two weeks to go), almost 40% more bids than the entire 4th quarter, which included the holidays. So I expect to see 1st quarter revenues about 40% higher than 4th quarter.

Yes, there must be many customers who have left On Sale for good.
I am one of them. The experience to deal with their customer
service was so frustrating that I do not feel I'll ever bid
on anything listed at their site.
