"L.M. Ericsson, 3Com Unit To Unveil GSM Cooperation Project"

Dow Jones Newswires -- March 18, 1998

HANOVER, Germany (Dow Jones)--Palm Computing Inc., a unit of
3Com Corp., will Friday unveil a prototype of a product that allows
wireless infrared communication with L.N. Ericsson's (ERICY) mobile
phones, executives said at a press conference Wednesday.

The pilot project is the first between Palm Computing and a GSM-standard
mobile phone maker in Europe, the executives said.

Worldwide annual sales of hand-held computers such as those made by
Palm Computing will more than quadruple to 13.1 million units by 2001 from 3.1 million units in 1997, according to U.S. research group International Data Corp.

Palm Computing currently leads the hand-held market. It unveiled a new
model Palm III March 9 that receives and sends infrared messages.
