I disagree with your thought about the importance of merced to consumer market.

I am delaying purchase because of Decheutes (their 350/400mhz P2) and win98, not for the 64 bit system.

Dechuetes (sp?) will have (wwith the 440BX chipset) addressing for 100mhz bus memory (need new ram!), and full implementation of AGP2X

you can do AGP2X now, but i'd rather do it with fast memory.

AGP lets video cards communicate with main memory. 2X means that data is on the rising edge and falling edge of the square wave (the clock signal). I think 4X is where info is on the high and low edges of the clock. Implementation of 4x (if possible) by 1999/2000.

Anyway, look at 1995 when win95 released. slow computer sales initially as consumers struggled to figure out what to buy (market place confusion at product transition), then growing sales going into next 8 qtrs.

So, sales will stink between now and June.

merced releases end of this year. Middle of year for sampling. Look for Sun Solaris operating system to run this 64bit system. better than winNT for multitasking, and multiprocessor systems. Look for box pricing around $6-10k.
