Agreed on INTC. Merced will be aimed at Joe Highend, not Joe Sixpack.

Deshutes will appeal to more the middle part (which eventually become the lower end as processors evolve), but a lot of people already have as much as they will need for awhile. Many will still go that route as it it the "latest and greatest".

Don't discount the G3/G4 material. Apple, of course, doesn't play in the lower markets very well. Still have their fists up pretty well in the "fast chips" where designers and geeks need them. Tougher fight here. (My next purchase being a 300 mhz G3, natch).

Betcha this: most if not all of those mach-chines have a "Iomega Inside". Many already do. PsycheInside&#153 scares a lot of folks in my industry (design), as they are former 44/88/270 users with too many lost files.
