I'm trying to figure out the implications of this gold sale and its getting confusing (I think I've read too many news releases today).

Is it a true statement that at the time of the EMU, total country reserves (as defined today) will equal "external reserves" plus reserves transferred to the European Central Bank? Or are "external reserves" defined more narrowly?
