Stochastics are the result of price action, not a prediction of future price action. For instance, the "slow stochastic", an oscillator which indicates overbought or oversold conditions is based on accumulation of price action near the recent lows or highs. Although, it's an oscillator, it can show that 'selling/buying is exhausted' and therefore, the odds of a change in direction are better. It can't predict. You are completely correct. But for those few (or many) of us who get a better idea of the price action via a graphical representation, it provides a snapshot of current price action. And sometimes, a divergence signals a change in direction.

OT - I put in a low bid on PSFT today but didn't get filled. Will try again tomorrow if it doesn't run off and up.
