Well, let's think about it. You could invest in, say, ten stocks.

Why not pick ten stocks that have strong earnings, strong patterns of earnings growth. Factually speaking, these and other factors are closely associated with stocks that will take off and do well.

Why pick one stock with a poor profile? Why "allocate" money to that? If you want the great breakout returns, why not allocate money to companies most likely to produce them?

It is like buying a lottery ticket, I guess. OK, I'll buy $1 worth of LGND on a lark. But only if the proceeds go to a good charity. ;-)
