Pat:

I have a battery backup with a built in surge protector and it even has what appears to me to be a GFI built in (ground fault interceptor).
Unfortunately, age must have caught up with the backup, as the one in my wife's office pulled the same action and failed yesterday, also.

As the computer box itself and the tv in the room seemed to have made it through ok, I decided to perform surgery on the 56k......

after removing the cover, I peered into the innards, and discovered that there really isn't much hard merchandise in there.

SO, being careful, precise, levelheaded, calm, and scientific by means of my lifestyle and demeanor---
I THEN, banged it very smartly down on the desk,
AND,
said three or seven "bad"words.
AND banged it again twice.

At this juncture in my morning, I knew that I had done all that could be done for my faithful friend, ol 56er, and reassembled it.
Hooked it back up, ----and viola, it WORKS...
so in the words of an old E Texas proverb--
"If it won't work when you hit it hard....., get a bigger hammer"

Funny how really slow the 14k felt----I can remember when it seemed like greased lightening when I graduated from the 9+ k.....ggg

----->I am aware that, like everything else in Texas, your electrical storms are far grander than ours here on the East Coast.

Now, Pat, I can see that foine grin all the way down here......gggg
BUT actually, that is true about most everything in Tx........GGGGG

Time for the opening---see you later.
Regards---Nemer
