Dear parcival:

I can only give you my "notions" of God. First, we find God in all of His creation. For the civilizations on earth before Naoh and before recorded history God has said he will not hold them blameless ( because of worship of snakes and creepy crawley things Et.)for He says they should have known Me in my creation.

If man is part of Gods creation , which we are, then yes God says that He made man in Our image; meaning Father Son and Holy spirit, that is why he said Our image , plural.

So whatever state of progress of seeking God you are in, I pray the Lord reveal himself to you in new and exciting means of revelation. For we can spend millions of years in eternity and never see all the aspects of God.

I read Genesis 1 just now and it has given me a wonderful start to my day; please you do the same. In Christ..gregor

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2
Now the earth was [1] formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3
And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.
4
God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.
5
God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning--the first day.
6
And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water."
7
So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so.
8
God called the expanse "sky." And there was evening, and there was morning--the second day.
9
And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so.
10
God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good.
11
Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so.
12
The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
13
And there was evening, and there was morning--the third day.
14
And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years,
15
and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so.
16
God made two great lights--the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.
17
God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth,
18
to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.
19
And there was evening, and there was morning--the fourth day.
20
And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky."
21
So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
22
God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth."
23
And there was evening, and there was morning--the fifth day.
24
And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so.
25
God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
26
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, [2] and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
28
God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."
29
Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.
30
And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground--everything that has the breath of life in it--I give every green plant for food." And it was so.
31
God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning--the sixth day.

". Do you agree that all notions of God are historically conditioned
images "

Socially constructed realities are the norm if we exclude the divinely revealed truths of God.
Without God, every culture and every individual constructs their own understanding of reality. Among these socially and culturally constructed realities, truth is indeed relative to each particular culture's point of view. Without God and His revelation, truth is cultural reality and truths are relative.

This is why God has given us His Word. It provies us with a diving measuring stick whereby we can measure our socially constructed realities. The Word of God contains eternal truths from the creator of all things. The precepts in the Word are not relative to culture or social group. Consequently the Word of God provides us with a perception of reality that never varies. The ultimate Truth for man in this revealiton is that Jesus Christ has died for the sins of man so that man can be reconciled to God and thus become a son of God.
The struggle within every human heart to attain to a perfection and goodness that is unattainable by human effort points to the need for an external source of redemption. It is only through Christ that we can attain to that image of perfection.

Incidentally, did you know that Wagner became a Christian while researching the character of parcival for one of his operas.

I have an interesting question for you Parcival--from the time I love quite a bit--and just asking as pure fact, and even in a sociological way. Granted, the worldly view is that "god is dead". Satanism is actually definitely on the rise and the most popular bands in the world honor him and some have called for conversions from the audience ot come forward at the end of the concert. Ozzie does it a lot.

Now, with god out of the way, do you see God in your fellow man? Or do you more and more see something that seems like its all drifting to not so good a place.

This from the sociological standpoint. Pretend it is a question on a high school test, or upgrade to college, or perhaps grad school. Whatever level you like.

And how many people have ever found a personal relationship with God while thinking about how nice someone else really is. That's a good question. I only ask this because I find it an impossible concept, and has had much the opposite effect down through history. It seems that the only thing that ever brought anyone to God, was in fact, God! Does this question make sense to you? It does to me, but it might not be worded right.

Dear Parcival:

Where did you go ? It really takes me a few days many times to ponder about a post. On your notion that God can be found by looking at man. This can be said. The souls of mankind are the only thing in creation that has been tainted by sin; other than the fallen angels. But as I write this, I think that eventually we will lay down beside the lion, whereas we cannot do so now; so does that mean that some of the wild animals have been tainted by sin. Interesting point; hopefully Emile or some other lurker can illuminate this for us.

But while tainted, you can see some great examples of Christ like qualities , especially in older saints of God; and not to forget mentioning the childlike qualities of innocence and beauty and purity.

And ; you know I have seen some beautiful qualities in people that do not profess Christ and some awful qualities in those that do.

But one thing I can assure; Christ chastises His own. I have been on the receiving end many times, but after all the "shouting is over", so to speak, I always love Him more than before; because it is an impossibility for Christ to allow an event in the life of a believer that is not for that person's ultimate good, and edification, and benefit, and character, and well being, and bringing up , and building up, and better self image in Christ.

Thanks for listening.. With all respect and well being in Christ. Smile..Jesus Loves You. In Christ Gregor
