Hello all.

I think DEC is a good deal right now.

Put yourself in Eckard shoe, would you let the deal fall through ? A man with much Ego like him would not let the deal fall apart. Much more talk about the unraveling of the acquisition may restructure the deal for the better to DEC shareholder.

I under stand that the deal could fall apart because of shareholders' votes. But as soon as this happen, CPQ will come right back and structure another deal. On the last PCWEEK issue, I read that Palmer will be gone after the merger, and the guy will walk away with $40M. (the price for selling out DEC shareholder)
They mentioned that Bruce Claffin and another CPQ VP are the front runner for Palmer's job. This news alone is worth the chance of getting back to DEC.

I have taken 1/2 of the intended DEC position. I reserve 1/2 in case
the deal fall apart, I could pick it up at around 35-40. On the other hand, CPQ may restructure the deal before it fall apart. Or if the deal go through as is you get CPQ at a discount.

hossein, sound like a good way to play DEC/CPQ at this time. As you may have already heard, there was a rumor on the Street that the deal was coming apart. CPQ and DEC issued a statement denying the rumor and saying that they are working hard in order to close the deal. They also said the deal will not be repriced.

On another note, although it affects DEC and CPQ, is my concern with the market's valuation and the problems confronting the hitech companies. I think the only things that are now keeping the market up are low interest rates and low inflation. Corporate earnings are starting to fall...I believe this is the Asian affect that we have be waiting for. Price cutting in the pc market another problem. Talking about $500 computers...hell, they may as well sell 2 for 1.

As I previously noted, I sold my DEC at 61 and will sit on the sidelines for now. Although, I am invested in other companies. You might want to look into a company by the name of Storage Technology (STK). I am not recommending that you buy the stock, but you might want to research to company.

Good luck with your DEC investment.
