Congress Business Daily (Mar. 18) -- INS solicitation for fingerprint equipment

cbdnet.gpo.gov

Not sure if this is a major procurement (it's hard to tell without the actual solicitation), but it may be an indication that the INS has finally figured out how to spend their appropriated funds.

J. Saf,

Your leasing # is way too high.

These are $ 40,000 machines tops. Why would the lease payments be $20,000 per year?.....If they are, I want the 6 year leasing business.

It will be Mo Money.

I agree with Brad that you are overstating the cost of the machines at $20,000 a year. If I remember right, the INS is expecting to use their IDX machines for five years (I don't remember where this stray fact is coming from). But it seems reasonable enough, and applying it here gives different numbers, @$30/click, which seems a bit on the low side (maybe NASD got a good deal).

250,000 clicks/year (or more) times $15 IDX income/click = $3.75 million (or more). Annual cost of 250 machines amortized over five years, IDX share, comes to 250 times $4,000 = $1 million. That leaves $2.75 million before taxes and other operating expenses, (About 11 cents/share). We don't really know the tax situation this far ahead, but it looks like we're in the neighborhood of six to nine cents a share for a cheap per/click rate. If the rate is even just $40/click, you can add another pre-tax five cents a share to the eleven cents (another $10/2 times 250,000 = $1.25 million/25 million shares).

If IDX wants to deduct the full cost of the TP-600s in their first year, all succeeding years will be that much more profitable, but the overall five year result would be comparable.

Really good news whichever way you analyze it.

It'll be interesting to see if IDX gets positive "PR" from the analysts (First Call) tomorrow (re: NASD), given that it is March option expiration. (Don't want to have to exercise any of those March 10's, do we)
