Don't look at just today's networkers' prices. Look at the trend over the last few weeks. BAY came out with a warning. Previously CS. Then ASND will likely meet expectations but not sure. (CSCO is special!)

Networking was supposed to be back in the groove after a hiatus of several quarters. I still suspect the momentum is there but there are signs from the bigger companies that something's amiss.

Finally even though the PC business is an altogether different category a reduction in the PC business (if true) implies there will be some effect for all the semis because PC's consume such a huge volume of ICs and if there is a reduction in demand there it will affect many other semis down the food chain.

XLNX and ALTR tend to move together in the absence of news because of the PLD connection and the business similarities.

I'm also hoping for no warnings.

Shane.

On my little guess that it was weakness in networking companies that was affecting ALTR and the other PLD stocks, here's some supporting info. from an old IBD article:

Makers of communications gear, such as networking vendors, now buy more than half of all PLDs shipped

I did not know that the %ge was this high but I did know that a lot of PLDs go to the networkers.

The problem to try and figure out is if the warnings from the 3 of the 5 networking vendors is a short term hiccup or something more ominous. At this point I'm leaning towards hiccup.

Shane.
