CCi is already the biggest and best in many investment banking areas, but not for retail clients. They are huge in currency, derivitives, asset backed, etc. Also, Voted the best in most catagories by Institutional Investor, A trade rag that we all read. There are 2 issues right now- 1) Is there a lurking hit in Asia that we all talk about, 2) Do they want a traditional trading house as a partner ? The Asia thing will show within six months if there reall yi s a problem, and as far as partners, how about Dresdner or DLJ ??? The point is, in banking, mergers will continue and I have found it pointless to speculate on who. If you are in it for the merger, go with the DLJ, Paine WEber, A.G. Edwards, Lehman, Bear Sterns, etc.... thats your bang for your buck.
