I think they call that practice of switching you "slamming". It is not allowed and no long distance provider can unilaterally switch you.

By the way, why did you switch and why did you switch back? If you used the service, how was it?

Sounds like the same scam that is involved in trying to cancel aol as an isp. They don't make it easy for you.
