Teegir,
You may want to differentiate between the MMDS technology and the MMDS companies.

I agree that the "market has spoken" on the MMDS companies, and until they prove they can generate some positive cash flow this situation will not change). Most of these are small companies who had a good vision but lacked the financial resources to implement it. Some may have overpaid for the spectrum. Others lack the funds necessary to do something with spectrum. This has resulted in little implementation of the technology with the only real successes being enjoyed by the RBOC's who have dabbled with it.

In technology, you can't stand still because someone else will pass you by very quickly. Had CAWS delivered the services they were promising a few years I think the situation would be quite different right now. But, by being in a stall mode (while seeking a partner and money) for the last two years, DBS, ADSL, and other technologies have been able to move in and fill the void.

But, this does not mean that the MMDS technology itself has been the problem.

Teegir...If your crystal ball has accurately depicted the imminent demise of MMDS, then the telecommunications analysts over at Merrill Lynch have made a serious mistake in recommending the sizable loan to CAWS, haven't they?

I suppose time will tell who is right!

Teegir, the 2-way MMDS/ITFS ruling is no more than several months away. By the time the FCC issues its LMDS BTA authorizations, etc., LMDS will not have a significant lead (if at all) on 2-way MMDS. Besides, look who's leading the auction today... a group of speculators (venture capitalists) and very few legitimate operators. Next, consider the economics of 28 GHz vs 2.5 GHz. Do you really believe LMDS has an advantage?
