Michael,

It was no joke. The debate was being conducted on the Welcome to Silicon Investor thread, which had developed into an idea incubator for many of the recent improvements that have occurred at SI. I was attempting to move the discussion into a targeted forum so the other ideas for and implementation of other improvements would not get lost in the cracks. Apparently Brad approved, since he has redirected to some of the discussion over here, and has participated himself on occasion.

As I'm sure you are aware, the filtering debate has been waged on many, many threads at SI including but not limited to the COMS/USRX Ghost thread. The posts you cited were made by regulars on that thread (where anything is "on topic"), and were made tongue in cheek, including both my post and I'm sure Dick's as well.

>>Metaphors that pose as knowledgeable winks often confuse me.

If our comments appear cavalier to you, it may be due to difference in participation level. Relative to your 18 messages, Dick has nearly 300, I have made over 5000, and Scrapps, the individual to whom I was responding, has over 7000 messages posted. As you can imagine, we've been there and done that, if you'll pardon the expression, so our comments can easily be misconstrued if taken out of context.

If the people from the FONR thread are the only ones
that want an ignore button, why not put it on the FONR
thread for a trial basis. It is the only thread that
I know of that has had the problem for thousands of on
going posts. It has gotten a lot better since Brad came
on the scene, but I'm sure Brad has a lot better things
to do than keep an eye on that thread. As soon as he
turns his back the problem comes right back.
The ignore button does not deprive anyone from saying
what ever they want, but it does give you the choice
of whether or not you read it. This is FREEDOM OF CHOICE
NOT DEPRIVING SOMEONE OF THEIR RIGHTS.
