So is Las Vegas:

Mormons from Utah were the region's first settlers, sent in 1855 by Brigham Young to build a fort. They were attracted by the artesian springs in the arid valley along the Old Spanish Trail. From the landscape came the name Las Vegas, meaning "the meadows." The Mormons abandoned the site in 1857, and the United States Army built Fort Baker there in 1864.

I thought it was called "Fort Genoa" at one time, but I don't see that here.
