<< I'm pretty sure that Ciena had to push back its release of their short-haul product for one reason or another >>

I'm not sure exactly what you're referring to, but it doesn't seem to make much difference. I don't see Osicom or any other company racking up 10's of millions of dollars left and right in the short-haul market, so CIEN was smart to focus their top priorities on the most promising market. Remember, CIEN just signed a deal a week or so ago for long-haul WDM worth more than FIBR's entire sales last year. Only one contract! Think about that the next time you say Ciena "faltered". I contend that Ciena "focused". They have enough cash and talent on board from their long-haul success that they can run circles around Osicom and it's $6 million in R&D they spent on their new products. Compare that to the strange and tricky ways that FIBR seems to finance their business plans. You tell me which method is more successful.

<< Thanks for the info about Ciena's product. Like I said, Osicom is losing its lead. Is this the testing Osicom was doing 6 months ago though or can it be compared to the testing Osicom is doing now with Brooks? >>

I can't say because I don't know what testing CIEN or FIBR has done, and I don't trust what management of FIBR would tell me if they did say.

<< I assumed that this was due to the sophistication of the short-haul market. Also, don't more data forms have to run through a short-haul DWDM product? >>

Obviously there are different challenges to both systems. I don't think it's too difficult to add standard interfaces for any data form that you could think of. If it did take some significant expertise, a promising company like CIEN could simply acquire the technology from someone and incorporate it into their product. The notion that Osicom and few others have this "special" knowledge is just a tactic employed by promoters of Osicom stock to make you and others believe that Osicom has some insurmountable lead that a company like CIEN with 3 times as much cash as FIBR had revenues last year couldn't accomplish. (Yes, I know, that was a long sentence.) With the type of engineers and cash that CIEN, LU, and others have, do you really think that Osicom has a lock on some sort of technology that prevents others from making competitive short-haul products? Give me a break. If Osicom had brilliant engineers capable of doing wonders with WDM that no one else had, THEY WOULD HAVE FLED THE COMPANY AND JOINED A REAL COMPANY LIKE CIEN OR LU WHO COULD HAVE GUARANTEED THEM A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR SALARY AND/OR GENEROUS STOCK OPTIONS.

Why would they stick around this deadbeat company? WHY???? This is all common sense. If you were supremely talented would you want to stick with Osicom and it's eternally depressed stock price and shattered image, or would you want to go shape the telecommunications revolution with a real company like CIEN? I would be scared to go work for a company that had such little cash and such a depressed stock price.
