Paul , the real answer to why Compaq can put K6 in their low end computers is due to Intel's price pressuring with Pentium mmx .
Intel has pushed the K6 -233 down to a price where Compaq can afford to use it in their lower price models . That is also the reason why PII has not sold as well as Intel thought .
Now that wasn't too difficult was it ?
It has nothing to do with superior design , in fact if you take away the high speed external bus on PII , what do you get ?
A design that is questionable whether it is better than Pentium MMX.
