I have been to environmental meetings several times.
I have waste disposal obligations I must follow with my
contracting business. We use chemicals and remove asbestos.
Also, I live in a heavily compressed area of chemical plants
and it seems to be a way of life in the area.

I have usually only seen opposition from locals that don't want
anything build or disposed of in their area. And more times
than not they don't know anything about what they are talking
about. They have fear of the unknown. They probably have more
hazardous toxins in their house than they get from outside.
I have visited the disposal sites and saw where these people
live. Many live in older homes that
have lead in the pipes and paint. Most smoke like
freight trains and drink like fish.
I mean IMHO they want some money to be bought out of their
losel life. I have heard a lot of anger about things they
knew nothing about and then try to argue their point. Problem
was, it was hard to figure out what their point was.

I do live in a very populated area. I have the idea this
disposal well is out of the way.
They say oil is a regulated substance which you cannot dump
out onto the ground. It must be collected and properly disposed
of or recycled. Funny thing. The state and federal government
put the stuff on our roads everyday and think nothing about it!
Black top has oil in it asphalt. Everytime it rains it runs
into our streams. Yet, if you take up the asphalt road, you
must dispose of it in a proper dump. Yet most of the hazard
of the release of asphalt run off has already occured.
Same with roof shingles. The runoff from the roof into the gutter
and into the streams are not even considered. But try to use
shingles as fill. Then it is a environmental thing.

Bottom line. More oil & gas is released by 'natural' means
than by spills ect. IMHO
Same with Chicken fat. Households dump their grease into the
sewer system and no one says a word. It is the large dumpers
that have to be regulated.

Asbestoes is mostly a myth. If you breath anything long enough
it will cause the same problems to your body. Coal, Gas, dust,
on and on. Our grand parents lived to be a hundred and ate
bacon and eggs all their lives. Now we find out we can only
safely eat one or two a week. I say: Give me a break!

Nuff' said?
