That may not be their job but I would say they have done a pretty good job of it anyway. re: The hugely successful "Intel Inside" campaign. That campaign has been all about waking up to what technology can do for you, especially the computer. Siemen's has an interesting one running here in Asia (is it in the States also?) called "We can do that!".

I think Intel has a rough quarter or two ahead of them. After that, Win98 will tell their story.

I agree the demand drivers are software.

I read something a while ago that hypothesized porn as the real driver of the first wave of VCR adoption. <g> Makes a lot of sense ...

Games don't really presage killer apps imho. Productivity applications are what grease the IS budgets.

A keen observation. I would tend to agree, and thinking about their core competencies, it makes sense that they would pursue more hardware-related technologies such as 1394 rather than flail around in the software business trying to lead demand.

Well, it turns out they DO flail around in the software business.
