Local broadcasters meet to iron out HDTV issues:

What appears clear from the article is that the DBS company, DirecTV, is miles ahead of the local broadcasters in being technically able to transmit HDTV signals to all its subscribers this fall. For starters, HBO will be providing DirecTV with 24 hour HDTV programming on two channels. My guess is that both CBS (NFL games, for starters)and PBS shortly will follow HBO to be participants on DirecTV HDTV transmissions and then NBC, Discovery group and the Turner group. ABC and Fox will be laggards.

RCA is partnering with DirecTV by providing HDTV compatible satellite receivers/decoders built right into its to-be-released 62" HDTV projection set. Zenith has not yet announced a DBS partner and needs to get on the DirecTV (or other major DBS company) band wagon quickly or lose initial sales momentum to RCA/Proscan.
