The question now is when to short Microsoft.

Rod,

Are you bearish on MSFT by any chance? :-)

With the price of every components in a PC got beaten down so much that a Pentium system is under a thousand dollars, it's hard to see how MS can justify $90 for Win95 and hundreds of dollars for Office. Is there a shortage of bytes going on? or perhaps OS shortage? All it take is a consumer advocate to start a campaign against high price software and operating systems and they will be in trouble.

Later on this year, Caldera case against MSFT will go on trial. Because the case will remain in Utah court, I give them better than 50% chance to win against MSFT.

In November 1997, the court denied Microsoft's motion to change the venue of Caldera's trial from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Seattle, Washington. This case is currently scheduled for jury trial in November 1998 in Federal Court located in Salt Lake City, Utah.

It's going to be a busy year for MSFT.
