stephen...shorts cover when bad news are annouced...so they can buy when longs go for the gate...then they decide to reset their longs on "the dead cat" bounce if the news is disturbing...just giving you a perspective that only a positive SURPRISE that counters short selling reasons will result in short covering...even then, we will not see rapid run up...as with ORCL, there were plentying of time for shorts to cover...that is why I like to short crippled large caps...it doesnt run up nearly as fast as people think...and at these valuations it moves down pretty quick if news is bad...all the best
