I need only remember that it is written: "Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord." Surely, Jane, I have felt the desire for vengeance, for revenge. And have not only felt the desire to insult, but have done so and needed to ask for forgiveness afterwards. The words of Christ in Matthew 6 are not advice, they are a statement, a command. It is for me to follow that command as best I can, and to hopefully grow stronger in it as the years pass. It is not for me to say, "well, Jesus told me to do this, but he did that, so I will, too." That's his territory, mine is to follow his commandments.
