Holly, what you were put through when you bought a new car for cash. As I understand it, every bank is required to fill out a federal form for any transactions over a certain amount, perhaps $5000. And you're right, only in America, unless you count despotic governments all over the globe. I doubt that they do that in Switzerland, although I don't know. Maybe Janice can tell us if such transactions are reported to the Federal Government in Italy. Jack
