Did you notice how Time Warner (ticker:TWX) broke its 52 week high today while Disney dropped 4 dollars a share?

I returned from a two week visit of Disney World. Here is what I noticed:

Attendance does not seem that good. Not just for the Disney parks but
for the other parks in the area -- this was a nice situation for visiting the parks -- not a lot of crowds to fight.

I visited Animal Kingdom (preview). It is really done well. Also
lots of opportunities for people to spend money.

Universal will be opening Adventure Island in 1999. IMO, Universal
Studio is far superior to Disney's MGM Park (with the exception of
shows -- which Disney does better), and I would expect Adventure Island to be pretty good.

It is difficult to guess to what degree Disney is going to be hurt
by this competition. I have noticed that quality seems less important
to Disney than revenue. This may help the bottom line in the short
term, but I think in the long term there will be an erosion of the
Disney name. When Walt Disney was in charge making money was a
requirement but not the GOAL. With the current Disney organization it seems IMO, that making money is the GOAL and that making an important contribution to our society is only a pretence.
