"There was a comment
by the game man that is was sluggish on a PC, did that mean he had some kind of beta?"

Yep. DR1 (Developer Release 1). There are PPC and Intel versions, both were notably slow. The goal was to get *something* out the door so that developers could get a head start, not to release a fully optimized version. The final relase is supposed to be much, much, quicker. The Id developer knew that what he was playing with was not the final release. Given that he knows that DR1 is not a good representation of the final product, I'm surprised he commented on the speed at all.

Could be. I coulda swore I heard someone on an internet site.... perhaps here talking about it.

I don't think they were talking about a Rhapsody client either. Comments like "rough interrface" described it as more server oriented OS.

I'd still like to see a snazzy client version out soon either on Intel (I don't expect it to run on Windows since it's supposed to replace Windows) or PowerPC.

I have heard that it was running on Intel architecture (likely beta) and that feverish work was going on to port it to PPC. (this was sometime last June I recall.

Would there be an advantage to releasing the Intel version first? I think if it proliferated under Intel, it might wipe the stigma of being Apple/Mac to the anti-Mac camp. It also gives the loyal Mac public something to look forward to. Then, it may give them more reason to buy an Intel box. Hmmmmm decisions, decisions.
