AMD in Austin, TX has been having intermittent yield problems over the past few quarters. This has not come as a surprise to anyone nor was it that big a secret. HOWEVER, the problem seems to have been finally isolated to a specific cleaning process. Apparently previous attempts with DOE (Design of Experiments) was not able to catch it since it was, after all, an intermittent problem. Well it seems that last week they finally found the culprit and traced it back to a cleaning process. No guarantees that another problem is not uncovered but the likelihood is very low.
