I don't know what assumptions you used to project a big positive earnings surprise for apple next quarter.

See Eric Yang's page:

macevolution.com

There's a Q2 estimate linked from there. Eric provides a range. My personal feeling is that EPS will be higher than the high end of Eric's range.

From what I'm told by people in major retail outlets for Macs, Apple has a serious--very serious--inventory problem.

I'd be very interested to know your sources for that. From reports I've heard, they have run out of many older systems, and their G3s are selling like hotcakes. There was a report a weeks ago which said that Apple's January retail sales put it third (?) in revenue in January at 7% market share. If that pace is maintained through the quarter, they're in for a big EPS surprise. Still, if you have proof to the contrary, I'd like to hear it.

Do you know when Apple announces announces next Q earnings?

April 15th.
