Just a personal opinion, but Celine's performance seemed "mechanical" to me. Probably had more to do with her gestures than her vocalization. Celine cemented my opinion of her as a class act, when she took up for La Streisand at the last moment after she backed out of her commitment. (Was that last year or the year before?) I honestly think she did Streisand a favor by letting Babs perform the duet with her. I'm sure Celine would not agree with that though.

It was interesting to see some of the old faces, but it looked like some kind of strange cattle call to me and I thought many of the performers looked uncomfortable. I thought Billy Crystal did a workmanlike job, but he seemed bored.

I thought the best portion of the show was the Oscar for Stanley Donen. He was absolutely charming. I grew up watching (and loving) his work. Funny Face plays as well today, imo, as it did when it was made. Who can find a single fault with Audrey Hepburn! Of course he made your point about the "Golden Age" performers in his acceptance speech. Just bring on board the best, show up, and then get out of the way. Let's face it we had that Golden Age because of the old Studio system. The raw talents were "groomed" as necessary to maintain the polish and star quality that we assumed came naturally (in most cases).

My son worked with the visual fx team that won the award for TITANIC. In fact, they used one of his shots for the presentation last night, no personal mention for him though. Just the obligatory thank- yous to "all those guys at DD that pulled it off" kind of stuff. I understand they a great party afterwards, though. <g>

>>Speaking of Ben Hur, Charlton Heston looked particularly uncomfortable.

Another Northwestern grad, I thought he looked very good. I think the unease that you
detected is the fact that he didn't smile, he just nodded and pursed his lips in a manly
gesture. Would you be happy being seated next to Ratso Rizzo? Julie Christie is still a
babe and a Darling.>>>>>>

Charlton Heston is suppose to do an infomercial, for an Environmental program, being run buy a lumber company, Madera (WOOD), that I own a bunch of, the stock. They have issued a press release to that effect.

They also have new news as of late yesterday.

I get quite upset watching the Clinton apologists on TV.

Duncan, Julie Christie had her face lifted recently. Obviously successfully. I agree with you that she is still very attractive.
