Ian:

Re: ...also demoed a prototype 1,100MHz PowerPC architecture...aren't expected to be released until the end of the year...

One of your previous links quoted an IBM Fellow saying gigahertz parts wouldn't be available until the year 2000 or 2001, but you're saying they'll be available at the end of this year? Do you have a link for this conclusion?

Thanks, Adam

Ian, Assuming all you points are valid

Any reason why these snail processors outsell the
superior chips in such a large ratio ?

Is it because of price ?
Is it because of OS ?
Is it because of application ?
Or is it because all these 20000000+ buyers each
year are just stupid ?

Gary

Ian - Re: "And just so we're on the same page kiddo - Intel's announced Deschutes rollout is a 350MHz, 400MHz and, then finally, a 450MHz version perhaps by the end of the year. "

And just to get you on the SAME PAGE, IBM/APPLE's rollout was a 300 MHz PowerPC - 3-0-0 !

As for " also demoed a prototype 1,100MHz PowerPC architecture. "

That was an INTEGER ONLY processor - not a full PowwrPC chip.

You and Apple keep quoting the same BYTE Benchmarks, over and over again. Why don't you use other benchmarks?

Paul

Ian, do not let Steve Job who is one of the greatest salesman mislead you. Here is the true benchmark directly from IBM and intel:
