Tolerance is an interesting word, as it is so often on the lips of those who used to tell us "you can't legislate morality." It seems to me that the most intolerant crowd around are those forever championing "diversity". It is they who really cannot stand anyone who doesn't go along with their program.

The twin Boy Scouts live walking distance from me, so I've been aware of their lawsuit for years. The Randall's knew what the Boy Scout oath was when they joined years ago. They had the choice to not participate, or to keep their disagreement private. Instead, in the fashion of Secular Fundamentalism, they went to court to try to force everyone else to change to suit them.

Yes, there is intolerance and bigotry afoot in the country, but it comes just as often from militant and intolerant diversity mongers as it does from those who are their targets. I always wonder if the self annointed progressives amongst us have ever heard of 'freedom of association'. Probably they have, but they feel it must succumb to their moral vision. After all, they do know what is best for the rest of us.

The mission for those who have the courage is clear: In the chaos, make a place where beauty and honor still converge.

Sometimes, Alex, you say the most wonderful things. Well-lots of times you do, but I especially love this. I think it does take courage to reject the chaos. And I think many times the intent is misunderstood--sometimes this may appear as willful ignorance of reality, as mindless optimism, as elitism, even as (oh, my, could this be me?) airheadedly shallow and blonde.
There are places and words and actions and thoughts that uplift and strengthen. I would prefer to spend my energy on these. When I watched the news last night, I realized how little I'd missed this past year by not turning on the TV and how much I'd gained by not immersing myself in the horror that surrounds us. It's too easy to lose your balance, and then your effectiveness. I don't mean to advocate ignorance, only that (for me) a little exposure goes a very long way. If as you say, the tenor of our thread returns to the good things, then we are doing something very, very right. If there is any feeling of warmth and kindness and nurturance here, then I consider us a great success.

Emerson--Every spirit builds itself a house, and beyond its house a world, and beyond its world a heaven. Know then that world exists for you.

DAR is the house our combined spirits have built for us here.
